Research

Our research is focused on adaptive signal processing with special focus on real-time application in

Since 2010 the DSS-Group is developing KiRAT, which is an acronym that stands for Kiel Real-Time Application Toolkit. First, it was made for audio and speech signal processing. Meanwhile, it also supports medical und underwater applications.

Team

The "Digital Signal Processing and System Theory" (DSS) team welcomes you on our homepage. Currently we consist of three professors or lecturers (Ulrich Heute, Klaus Linhard, and Gerhard Schmidt), one secretary (Kathrin Büsse), one system administrator (Kevin Prehn), about fiveteen internal and external PhD students, as well as several master and bachelor students. More details about us can be found in our team section.

DSS Team

Teaching

Currently the DSS group offers 8 lectures (7 internal + 1 external). The internal ones are presented during the normal term times, the external ones are offered as block courses in the summer break.

Currently the DSS group offers one bachelor and three master labs. If you are interested please have a look on the corresponding section on our website.

We try to offer always multi-student projects in order to teach also team work. Most of the time our projects are offered within the lecture "Signals and Systems". For information on previous projects please have a look on this section of our website.

If you want to do your bachelor or master thesis with us, please have a look on the corresponding section on our website or come over to the office of Prof. Schmidt and talk with him about possible topics that might fit to your personal needs.

Recent News

On June 30st, Chirstin Bald and Thorben Kaak were honored with prices form the Faculty of Engineering. Christin Bald finished as the best bachelor student this year in the study program "Electrical Engineering, Information Technology and Business Management" and Thorben Kaak did the same but in terms of his master studies in the study program "Electrical Engineering".

Of course, the DSS team congratulates both of them to the price and to their excellent performance during the study periods.

Media Center

In our media center you can find

  • pictures of us, our activities, and our research,
  • videos that are used in our lectures and scientific talks, and
  • audio examples recorded during our speech and audio experiments.

Special thanks to all the photographers in the DSS team: Jan Bajorat and Christian Lüke in the "early times", but also to Eric Elzenheimer as the photographer of the "second phd generation".

Furthermore, you can find in our media center several surveys, that help us in our research. Examples for such surveys are the subjective evaluation of communication systems or intelligibilty classification of pathologic speech examples.

Also we offer several data bases in our media center. Some of these data bases can be used for free for research purposes.
